MIRAMAR SKI TEAM WINS FIRST TWO VILLAGE CHAMPIONSHIPS

MMSA Photo Services/Susan Morning Laurey Carlson goes for it in the first VCs race of the winter.

After a slow start with the first two races being re-scheduled due to weather.  we now have weather contingency party plans: If the race is canceled, the party goes on! We will watch vintage VC racing and still hand out prizes. Personally, I hope we have another cancelled race at some point.

Our last race was dedicated to Jimmie Heuga, team mate of Billy Kidd and Jimmy Morning and one of four skiers from Colorado to participate in the 1964 Olympics. Heuga trained in Mammoth and in the ’80s Mammoth Mountain hosted the Jimmie Heuga Express – an amateur vertical skiing event held to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis medical research.
“He passed away on Monday afternoon, Feb. 8, 2010, just after 1 p.m., 46 years to the hour of when he won the gold medal in Slalom at the 1964 Olympics.” (www.cbuffs.com)

ownhill to brings skis and boards to your door so that you don’t have to deal with rental shops. – Team Captain Tim Hinkle.

• The Cougar Ate Yo Baby is named after the New Zealand saying, ‘The Dingo Ate Yo Baby,’ used whenever something goes missing – Team Captain Ben Manning.
• Das Scheisse Pro: German slang term. This team of party pros is out to have a good time and holds regular pancake and beer breakfasts before each race – Team Captain Art Eisberg.
